Bessie M. McVay Obituary
Bessie M. McVay, beloved wife of the late Charles Harold McVay passed away peacefully in the early hours of June 18, 2024. She was 100 years old. Born in Darien, CT to the late John and Martha Kempf, she grew up in Norwalk, graduating from Norwalk Senior High School in 1941. She later joined the Navy with her lifelong friend "Dorie.". She was stationed in Washington, DC performing clerical work. Bessie spent time as a driver for Naval officers before receiving an honorable discharge in 1945 as a Seaman First Class.
Bessie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. She is survived by her daughter Arline Lacey Conroy, her son Richard McVay and his wife Karen, as well as her loving grandson Radek Lacey. She was preceded in death by her cherished granddaughter Amalia (Amy) McVay. She will be missed by many that knew her as Aunt Bess, Meme, and friend.
Always the fortunate one, Bessie enjoyed playing "her numbers" and loved a good game of bingo, any kind of raffle, and the horse race games at Broad River Homes. Many thanks go to her caregivers Janet, Linda and Hope, everyone at Broad River Homes — staff and residents, and in her final years, the loving staff at Notre Dame Health and Rehabilitation Center.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. John's Cemetery, 223 Richards Ave., Norwalk, CT.
