Bertha Jones Obituary
Bertha P. Jones, age 98, of Norwalk, beloved wife of the late William H. Jones, passed away peacefully on Thursday January 9, 2025 at Brookdale Senior Living in Wilton. She was born in Norwalk to the late Christos and Stavroula Petropoulos. Bertha was predeceased by her three brothers Michael, John and Constantine and one sister Edith (Schinell).
Bertha grew up in Norwalk and eventually moved to New Canaan where she lived happily with her husband Bill for 44 years.
Following graduation from Norwalk High School she attended the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing, where she received her diploma as a registered nurse and began her lifelong nursing career in the hospital nursery. Throughout her career she worked in hospitals and doctors' offices and also worked at Pitney Bowes before retiring at the age of 75.
To many she was known as Pete, a nickname she preferred over her given name. She married Bill in 1977 and together they enjoyed traveling the countryside of the United States and Greece.
Bertha was a devout member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Archangels where she was an active member of the Philoptochos Society and also served on the board for several years. She particularly enjoyed attending the senior monthly luncheons.
Bertha loved to ski and would often take her nieces and nephews on day trips to mountains close by. Later in life she enjoyed cross-country skiing along the trails at Waveny Park in New Canaan. She joined the Brookdale Wilton family in 2022 and especially loved the evening movies and monthly outings.
Her family would like to thank all of the staff that looked after her at Brookdale in addition to the nurses from Caring Hospice Services and the aides from Quality Care that attended to her near the end.
Bertha was loved and adored by her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and her three step grandchildren. Those who touch our lives stay in our hearts forever.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday January 15, 2025 at The Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St. in Stamford, CT from 10:30 to 11:30 am with a church service starting at 11:30. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Bertha's name to the Alzheimer's Association, St Jude Children's Hospital, Veterans of America and/or Wounded Warriors Project.
