Bernard K. Newman Jr. Obituary
Bernard Kenneth Newman Jr., 87 years old, a resident of Norwalk, CT, passed away peacefully at Norwalk Hospital on March 13th, 2024 surrounded by his family. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Audrey Newman of 51 years who predeceased him on March 14th, 2011.
Bernard was born on March 23rd, 1936 at Norwalk Hospital, in Norwalk, Connecticut. He was the son of the late Bernard Kenneth Newman Sr. and late Gertrude (Finnegan) Newman; he was the loving husband of the late Audrey Ann Newman. Bernard is survived by his son Peter Newman, daughter Jane Gentile (David), his caring siblings Joan Didato, and Claire Quigley (Robert). He is blessed to also have four grandchildren, Diana Granata (Anthony), Joseph Gentile (Elisabeth), Jenna Gentile (Matthew), and Christopher Newman, and most recently his great grandson Todd Granata. Bernard is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, his parents, and his grandparents, Bernard is predeceased by his brother-in-law Joseph Didato.
Bernard was a U.S. Army veteran, stationed in Texas and served in Korea. He retired as an assistant Postmaster from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of dedicated service. Bernard was an avid book and newspaper reader, enjoyed watching sports on TV, and taking many trips to the shore in Rhode Island, though his most cherished pastime was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchild.
He will be missed and remembered for his kindness, humor, and storytelling.
Friends may greet the family at Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Avenue., Norwalk, CT, on Tuesday, March 19th from 10-11am. A Funeral Mass will be held on March 19th, 2024, at 11:30am at St. Jerome Parish on 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk, CT. Following the Mass, Bernard will be laid to rest with his wife at Saint John Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Jerome's Parish in Norwalk CT.
The family would like to thank the attending doctors, and the nurses at Norwalk Hospital, as well as the Health Care staff at Wilton Meadows Rehabilitation Center.
