Berley A. Mears Jr. Obituary
Berley A. Mears, Jr., born and raised in Norwalk, CT, now a resident of Delaware, died there peacefully on June 5, 2024.
Berley was born in 1948, the son of Berley A. Mears Sr. and Josephine Aquino Mears. His parents and brother Major predeceased him. Berley is survived by his sister Judith Mears of CA. Brother Alan Mears, wife Cathy of CT. Niece Melissa Mears of CT. Berley's former wife Bonnie Bowersox of DE, their two children Wendy Workman of DE. And Berley A. Mears of DE, grandchildren Bailey and Canaan Mears. Another daughter Kaitlyn Mears of FL.
Berley loved growing up in Norwalk near Long Island Sound. It was there that he developed his lifelong love of fishing and boating.
A 1st job as a teenage was at the Palace theater. It was there he met lifelong friends. He enjoyed reminiscing with them on visits back to Norwalk.
Berley enlisted in the US Army during the Vietnam war, stationed in Germany and Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense, Vietnam Service, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medals. And Sharpshooter Badge.
After returning home Berley worked for the CT DOT before opening his 1st business Lads and Lassies Billard Hall. He also owned a successful pet store in New Canaan.
In 1984, he and his family purchased a farm in DE growing chickens for major companies. He also opened Fat Boys motorcycle shop, Seaford Alt & Starter shop.
A proud vet, he belonged to the local AmVet & VFW. Volunteering his time to paint a display tank. He loved riding his Harley with fellow vets.
He loved being Poppi to his grands. Holding their hands as they watched for the garbage truck or visited the animal park.
