Anne Brigid Desy Obituary
Anne Brigid Caruso Desy passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023, at Norwalk Hospital, following a brief illness. She was 85.
Anne was born on August 1, 1937 in Milton, MA, to the late Arthur T. Caruso and Mary McMahon Caruso. She moved with her family to Stamford in 1953, where she graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She received her Bachelor's degree in English from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, and her MA in Education from the University of Bridgeport.
Anne taught third and fifth grade at St. Mary's School in Stamford, where she was beloved and well-remembered by her students and their families. She continued her passion for education through volunteering at the schools that her daughter attended.
Anne met her future husband, Tom Desy, at the Stamford Newman Club where she caught his eye with her poster size, sheepskin diploma. They were married on October 16, 1965 at St. Mary's church in Stamford.
Anne survived her husband Tom for 18 days, before she was able to take her place beside him for the rest of eternity.
Anne is survived by her daughter Jane Desy Gebhardt, her son-in-law, James Gebhardt, and granddaughter Annabelle Joy Gebhardt, of Norwalk, and grandson David Gunther Gebhardt of Stamford, as well as her sister, Sr. Mary of Jesus, OCD, of New Jersey, brother-in-law James R. Johnson, nephew James Anthony Johnson, and his wife Andrea, and great niece Eliza Jane Johnson of New Canaan. Anne was predeceased by her sister, Jane Caruso Johnson.
Anne was a fiercely loving, feisty, frank, and incredibly witty woman who will be missed by her family, her family of friends, her former students, and anyone lucky enough to have crossed her path.
A funeral Mass will be held for Anne and Tom on Saturday, October 14, at 9:30am, at St. Matthew Church in Norwalk. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mission of Our Lady of the Angels, 3808 W. Iowa St., Chicago, IL 60651.
