He was predeceased by: his parents, William J. Lavery and Helen Keniley Lavery; his former wife Flora Vigliotti Lavery; and his children, Sarah (Henry), Will (Jenner), Michael (Elodie) and Chris (Naz).

He is survived by: his wife Joan Murcko Lavery; his stepchildren, Mary, Maggie (Anthony), David (Kara) and Annie (John); his grandchildren, EJ, Liam, Izzy, Amalia, Felix, Theo, Luca, Yasmine, Stella, Scarlett, Caileigh, June, Faith and John; and his siblings, Hugh (Jan) and Betsy Maher. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22nd 2024 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Honan Funeral Home (58 Main St, Newtown, CT 06470). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23rd 2024 at 9:00 AM at the Saint Rose of Lima Church (46 Church Hill Rd, Newtown, CT 06470).

Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Newtown Scholarship Association or the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, honoring his commitment to education and community.
