He was predeceased by: his parents, Patrick Cunningham and Ellen Cunningham (Sullivan); and his sons, Daniel Cunningham and David Cunningham. He is survived by: his wife Mary Cunningham (Fitzgerald); his children, Partrick Cunningham (Inelda) of California, Ellen D'Alessandro (Giovanni) of Union, John Cunningham (Rebecca) of Tennessee, Martin Cunningham (Carleen) of Glastonbury, Bridget Cunningham of Florida and Katherine Corey (Mike) of Rhode Island; his grandchildren, Nancy and Shannon; and his siblings, Tom Cunningham of West Hartford, James Cunningham of West Hartford and Eileen Scully of Ireland. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
