Walter Goffart Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Walter Goffart of New Haven, Connecticut, who passed away on February 14, 2025 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
Though Walter may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Walter touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Francis-Léo Goffart and Andrée Steinberg. He was also cherished by his wife (m. 1977), two older siblings, two daughters from a previous marriage, and one granddaughter.
In 2001 he was awarded a residency at the Rockefeller Foundation study center in Bellagio and in 2015 at the Bogliasco Foundation, Genoa.
