Elisabeth L. Fesenmeyer Obituary
Elisabeth L. Fesenmeyer, 89, was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and undeniable light to all of those who knew her. Elisabeth passed at home in New Canaan, CT on April 5, 2023, where she had happily spent 50 years gardening, cooking, baking, and, her favorite activity, hosting family, friends, and all others who were lucky enough to have a seat at her table.
Elisabeth was born in Basel, Switzerland on November 23, 1933 to Alois and Elisabeth Suter. As a teenager, she caught the eye of long-time family friend, Hanspeter, whom she went on to marry on September 28, 1957 and spent 66 wonderful years with. Elisabeth, Hanspeter, and their two young sons, Christian and Andreas, immigrated to Tom's River, NJ in 1964 for Hanspeter's job. It was there that the family first discovered their love of boating – a pass time Elisabeth enjoyed partaking in over the years. Along with their third son Daniel, the entire family moved to New Canaan in 1973. With her effortlessly kind and welcoming nature, Elisabeth built communities of people who adored her wherever she went. She was an avid bridge player, expert sewer, lifelong skier, casual golfer, active Suburbanite member, and could often be found greeting everyone with a smile at Shore & Country Club, where she and Hanspeter were long-time members. Elisabeth loved to travel, which continued long into her life, with winters spent in Florida, springs in Switzerland, summers on Basilea in various ports across the Northeast, and falls visiting with her children and their families. Elisabeth never forgot a name, a face, or a birthday and her always positive influence will carry on in the lives of those who knew her. She was profoundly loved and is deeply missed. Elisabeth was predeceased by her parents: Alois and Elisabeth, her brother Alois, and her sister Christa.
Elisabeth is survived by her husband, Hanspeter; her sons and their spouses: Christian and Monique, Andreas and Michele, and Daniel and Leanne; her grandchildren: Elizabeth, Lynn, Sarah, Mark, Kristin, Laina, Ryan, Lucas, and William; her great-grandchildren: Nora, Adaline, and Prudence; and her sister, Marie-Agnes.
A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. on April 15th at St. Aloysius Parish, 21 Cherry Street, New Canaan.
