He was predeceased by: his parent Matthew D. Shirley; his children, Edward Shirley and Karen Shirley; and his siblings, Raymond Shirley and Penelope Bissonette.
He is survived by: his parent Alice Shirley (LaGasse); his wife Helene Shirley (Bourret) of New Britain; his children, Lisa Kiley of New Britain, James Shirley (Lori) of Berlin and Thomas Shirley (Deborah) of Bristol; his daughter-in-law Deena Shirley of Bristol; and also Helene. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
