He was predeceased by: his parents, Francisco Hernandez Acevedo and Maria Perez Cordero; and his brothers, Ernesto, Sergio and Luis Hernandez.
He is survived by: his wife Librada Valle Hernandez; his children, Madeline Hernandez (Gaetano Zavaglia Jr), Edwin Hernandez (Anita Hernandez), Edward Hernandez (Belinda Hernandez) and Robert Hernandez (Amanda Hernandez); his grandchildren, Gaetano G. Zavaglia III, Dylan Hernandez, Jason Hernandez, Yesenia Hernandez and Kianna Hernandez; his sisters, Ofelia Hernandez, Zaida Hernandez (Efigenio Mejias) and Canji Hernandez; and his sisters-in-law, Ricarda "Julie" Hernandez, Angelita "Lita" Hernandez and Estrella Hernandez. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The military honors was held on Friday, March 7th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Cemetery (250 Gypsy Ln, Meriden, CT 06450).
His generosity extended to his community through regular donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Shrines Hospitals for Children, the Breast Cancer Foundation and others.
