He was predeceased by: his parents, Gustav Robert Carlson and Hilma Maria Carlson (Selin); his wife Betty Alice Carlson (Gustafson); and his sister Ethel Carlson. He is survived by: his daughter Kristen; his son-in-law Jeffrey Garnett of Madison, CT.; his daughter Kara Carlson (Austin Grady) of Nantucket, MA; and his granddaughters, Caroline Garnett, Kristina Garnett and Katharine Garnett.
