Leonardo C. Velasquez Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Leonardo C. Velasquez of Ledyard, Connecticut, who passed away on October 22, 2024, at the age of 89, leaving to mourn family and friends. Though Leonardo may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Leonardo touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Gonzalo (Crispina Custodio Velasquez) and Leonardo; and his siblings, Ray and Evangeline Delmo. He is survived by: his wife Margie (Margie); his sons, Leonardo Velasquez, Jr. (Peggy) of Dedham and Neil Velasquez (Amy) of Cheshire, Connecticut.; and his granddaughter Emily.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Byles-Groton Memorial (310 Thames St, Groton, CT 06340). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Thursday, October 31st 2024 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church (1650 CT-12, Gales Ferry, CT 06335).
Family and friends may pay their respects during visiting hours on Wednesday, October 30, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames Street, Groton..In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Paws and Stripes, 617 Truman St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110 an organization providing service dogs to veterans, honoring Leonardo's love of dogs and lifelong commitment to military service.
