We bid farewell to Essie Mae Bussey (Hartford, Connecticut), whose journey of life gracefully concluded on April 13, 2025 at the age of 88. Essie Mae touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. She was predeceased by: her parents, Sol Fleming and Elizabeth Fleming (Peterson); her husband Robert Bussey; and her son Anthony Bussey. She is survived by: her siblings, Sol Fleming (Ceil), Willie Fleming, Oliver "Bud" Fleming, Bertha Mae Johnson, Hester Barfield, Leola Johnson, Eula Mae Walker and Virginia Mitchell; her daughter Deborah Bussey Wimberley (Charles); and her grandchildren, Chek'ey Murray, Thomas Bussey, Anthony Bussey Jr. and Sydney Wimberley.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 19th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the First Cathedral (1151 Blue Hills Ave, Bloomfield, CT 06002). A graveside service will be held on Monday, April 21st 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Cedar Hill Cemetery (453 Fairfield Ave, Hartford, CT 06114).
Essie had a special place in her heart for children, so in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Judes Hospital to be made in her honor.
