He was predeceased by: his wife Alicia Ema Afonso. He is survived by: his children, Nelson Afonso (Angela), Doris Kandel (Christopher) and Alicia Barreira (Nelson); and his grandchildren, John Joseph Afonso Barreira, Alicia Michelle Afonso, Samuel Afonso Kandel, Sara Marie Afonso Barreira, Antonio Augusto Afonso and Adelena Faith Afonso.
