He is survived by: his parents, Patricia Nugent of Uncasville and Carl Thunberg of Mystic; his sister Pamela DeSimone (Sal); his niece Emily; his nephew Liam of North Stonington; his uncle Robert Nugent (Carol) of Bozrah; and his grandmother Frances Nugent (Bozrah).

Donations in Erik's memory may be made to any non-profit animal rescue organization.
