He was predeceased by: his wife Ella Kovács Szabó; and his brother Miklós Tamás Szabó. He is survived by: his parents, Aladár Szabó and Aino Hakulinen-Szabó; his daughter Eve Aino Rosa Wirth; his son-in-law Russell Double Lee Wirth III; his grandsons, Russell Alden Szabó Wirth of Mill Valley and Spencer Adams Kovács Wirth of Mill Valley; his nephew Robert Tamás Szabó of Cranberry; and his significant other Dee Andress Lewis.
