She was predeceased by: her parents, Edward Penning and Karolyn Penning (Rosein); her sister Barbara Pfenighausen Bossom; and her daughter Judith Ann Syme. She is survived by: her former husband Donald; her children, James Syme (Susan), S. C., David Syme (Jacqueline) of Stafford Springs, Steven Syme (Mary Beth) of Glastonbury and Cheryl Wiecek (Stan) of New Hartford; her grandchildren, Amanda Baugh (Brian), Hannah Given (Matt), Eric Syme (Gina), Troy Syme, Zachary Syme, Adam Wiecek and Aislyn Syme; her great grandchild Carmella Baugh; her nieces, Joan Klimas (George) and Carol Kelly (Don); and her cousin Loretta Francis. She is also survived by extended family, and many friends.
