He was predeceased by: his parents, Cicely Wayland and Magruder Craighead; and his wife Mary Evelyn Donworth Craighead. He is survived by: his children, Lincoln Wayland Craighead Jr., Evelyn Carey Craighead, Caroline Donworth Craighead and Laura Susan Craighead; his son-in-law Peter Samuel Reich; his grandchildren, Cicely Allegra Reich-Staniulis (Jason Anton Staniulis) and Carey Lucas Reich; his great grandchild Elliot Charles Staniulis; his stepchildren, Cynthia Alden Smith, Tracy Smith Van Buskirk (Peter Caulkins Van) and Andrew Logan Smith; and his stepgrandchildren, Elisa Logan Van Buskirk and Dana Lincoln Van Buskirk.
