He was predeceased by : his parents, Eleanor Gates and Louis Gates of Rockville, CT.; his wife Irene Suchecki; and his cousin Carol McGovern (Milunus). He is survived by : his daughters, Deborah (Peter Thompson), Dorene and Diane (Steven Daigle); his grandchildren, Laura, Drew (Elise), Alexandra (Justin) and Nicholas (Danielle); his great grandchild Hadley; and his godson Stephen Suchecki. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 19th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home (76 Prospect St, Vernon, CT 06066). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 19th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the St. Luke's Church (141 Maple St, Ellington, CT 06029).

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Homes for Our Troops and the Cornerstone Foundation.
