Davin Thomas Kiesewetter Obituary
On Sunday, January 8, 2023, Davin “Dave” Thomas Kiesewetter, 47, of East Granby, CT, beloved husband of Katherine (Fisher) and loving father to his two sons, Jacob and Evan, passed away suddenly at his home due to complications of heart disease.
Born June 24, 1975, in Hartford, CT, Dave was the son of the late Warren and Alice (Stanko) Kiesewetter. He grew up in Simsbury, CT, with his three siblings: Elizabeth (Smith) of West Hartford, and Michael and James, both of Winsted. Dave graduated from the Ben Bronz Academy in 1993 and later pursued degrees in both Criminal Justice and American Sign Language Interpretation. During his post-secondary studies, he shifted gears and embraced a new passion: building and construction. Truly a jack-of-all-trades, Dave loved building and creating things, but most of all he loved helping people creatively solve problems, repair and improve their homes, and troubleshoot when things don’t go as planned.
Dave was very fortunate to find love early in life, meeting Katherine, his high school sweetheart, back in 1993, and later marrying her in 2001. In typical Dave style, their first date was interrupted by stopping to lend aid to an elderly woman with car trouble on the highway in the rain. They missed the movie they were meant to see that evening, but it set their relationship on a solid trajectory toward eternity. It was at that moment Kate knew his selfless soul was meant for her.
Dave had an uncanny knack for letting his good natured volunteerism land him in some unique situations. From seeing Woodstock 1999 after providing a ride to a group of strangers with car trouble, to meeting numerous little old ladies who commented, “You must have been a boy scout” as Dave executed yet another roadside repair, to accidentally blowing out the power steering on not one, but two, trucks while successfully k-turning a 30’ camper trailer in a single lane road, Dave’s uniquely helpful nature led him on a lifetime of adventures.
Recently, a friend referred to Dave as “larger than life,” which couldn’t be a more perfect description; he loved in ways that were always larger than life. Love for his boys, whom he adored teaching all the trades and who accompanied him as miniature tradesmen on every kind of project. Love for his beloved dogs, who are still patiently wagging in wait for their master’s return. Love for his wife, soulmate and other half.
He will be greatly missed by so very many people.
