It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gelsemina Penland of Derby, Connecticut, born in Shelton, Connecticut, who passed away on December 5, 2023, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Frank Penland; her father Rafael "Ralph" Coscia; her son Ralph Penland; and her sister Filomena "Faye" Vagnini. She is survived by: her mother Concetta "Carrie" Coscia (Martino); her children, Frank Penland and Patricia Altieri; her grandchildren, Carrie Penland and Ralph Penland; her sisters, Barbara Sutton, Rose Stachelczyk and Concetta "Connie" Rykowski; her goddaughter Mary Ortisi; and her daughter Lily. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Donations can be made to the United States Veterans in honor and in memory of her late husband and son who proudly served in the military.
