He was predeceased by: his parents, Pasquale "James" Spegnolo and Josephine Spegnolo (Rilotta); his brother Frank Spegnolo; and his daughter Mary Ann. He is survived by: his significant other Frances "Franca" (Scalzo); his children, Thomas E. Spegnolo and Donna Maccarrone; his granddaughters, Carly Maccarrone and Marissa Rudewicz (Connor); and his sister Mary Rubinow.

He was a basketball All Star at Danbury High School, refereed student leagues for years, and was honored in 2008 for his contributions to local sports.
