He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Jr. Zilen and Mabel Van Zilen (Mitchell); his wife Mary Van Zilen (Mayor); and his brother Dennis Van Zilen. He is survived by: his brother Howard Van Zilen III of Brookline; his sons, Gary M. Van Zilen Jr. (Lisa) of Higganum, Connecticut and Gregory M. Van Zilen (Samantha) of Colchester, Connecticut; and his grandchildren, Aviana, Isaac, William and Abigail Van Zilen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
