He was predeceased by: his parents, John H. Herbst and Mary Herbst (Bartek); and his son Arthur D. Herbst. He is survived by: his wife Marcia E. Herbst (Copenhaver); his daughter Julia Wholey (Brien); his granddaughter Nina Wholey of Canton; his son Andrew Herbst; his grandchildren, Nicole and Nathan Herbst of Seattle; his siblings, Maryanna Fichthorn (Joseph Fichthorn) and Henry E. Herbst; his siblings-in-law, Doris Herbst, Michael Angello Sr. (Joann), Melissa Ebig and Patty Charney; his cousin Janet Cloak; his nieces and nephews, Donald, Gregory, Nanette Herbst, Drew Ebig, Deanna Angello, Michael Angello Jr., Christine Klingesmith, Ellen Barker, Richard, Edward and Robert Charney; his pets, Socrates and Plato; and also, Joanna Fichthorn Rosebush and Ross Fichthorn.
