He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest August and Mamie Frances (Sherman); his son Ernest Wilhelm (Richthofen); and his siblings, Janet Mae, Frederick and Darryl (Richthofen).
He is survived by: his wife Ursula (Stuhlmann); his son Philip Douglas; his grandchildren, Daniel Ernest, Kathryn Ann, Kira, Philip Cole and Austin Thomas; his great grandchildren, Shyann Lynn and Kaylan Lee; and his sister Karen Ellis.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made in his name honoring Ernest's love of animals to East Coast Assistance Dogs, a local organization which provides highly skilled Service Dogs to increase mobility and independence for veterans, persons living with disabilities, and children with Autism.
