He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin T. Austin and Cecelia Connetti Austin; his wife Patricia Howard Austin; and his brother Martin Austin. He is survived by: his former wife Nancy Jean Turner; his sons, James (Theresa) and Peter; his grandchildren, Katelyn and Jeffrey; his stepson Stephen (Carrie); his stepgrandchildren, Rory, Lauren and Caroline; his daughter Torrie Phillips (Bryan); his grandchildren, Rowan and Ruby; his pets, Muffin and Zoe; and also, Dawn Salan (Joe), Joshua, Jack, Jill Levasseur (Paul), Sean and Benjamin.
