He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Francis Mills and Mary Mills of Bristol; his wife Barbara; his daughters, Jean Kelley of Canton, Kathy Mills (John Turner), Jennifer Mills (Joseph Boulanger) of Boston and Alyssa Mills (Boris Krivitsky) of Charlotte; his grandsons, Thomas Kelley, Ben Kelley of Boston and Louis Krivitsky of Charlotte; and his siblings, Barbara Terry, David Mills of Bristol, Patty Welch of Woodstock, Lori Buchas of Harwinton and Susan Martin of Farmington.

“Dear Mills Family: I weep with you. Words cannot capture Mr. Mills' profound influence and impact on my music -- and my life. His kind, tenderhearted but firm and fatherly approach helped me blossom and grow as a flautist and a person. I hear the sweet strains of "Jesu Bambino" lilting through my head as I played that flute duet on Christmas morn 1986 at a church in Bristol, at Mr. Mills invitation and direction. Many other cherished memories are too numerous to list but repeat through my heart.”
