He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Emmanuel Lopes and Palmira Lopes (D'Oliveira); his wife Maria Lopes (Livramento); his children, Palmira Pires (Luis), Jose Lopes, Elizabeth Lopes, Emmanuel Lopes, Ulisses Lopes and Carlos Lopes (Isa); and his sister Emelia Mendes of Boston. He was also cherished by fifteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
