He is survived by: his children, Mary Cosme, Rufus Gartrell, Jerome Gartrell, Laverne Terry, Joseph Gartrell, Jr. and Pamela McKnight; his granddaughter Tiatana McKnight; and his sisters, Lois Patterson and Sadie Huyghue. He is also survived by relatives and friends.
