He was predeceased by: his parents, Eleanor B Bates and William G Bates. He is survived by: his wife Carol G. Bates; his children, Katie Baranauskas of South Windsor, CT, Carey Bates of Brooklyn, NY, Jim Marsh (Kelly) of Avon, CT and Sydney Marsh (Dawne) of Waxhaw, NC.; his sister Susan B Margraf (James H. Margraf) of Keene, NH; his niece E. Sage Minella (Tony); and his nephew Christopher B. Margraf (Elizabeth). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren.
