It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Robert Nelson Slonecker of Sterling, Colorado, born in Fort Collins, Colorado, who passed away on September 4, 2022, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Lyle Nelson Slonecker and Helen Slonecker (Yoder); his sister Ruth Fellers; and his brothers-in-law, Marvin Fellers, Dick Hopwood, Larry Hopwood and Bill Vanschoonhoven.

He is survived by: his wife Marilyn Hopwood; his children, Mary Specht of Eaton, CO and Jim Slonecker (Lori) of Buckeye, AZ; his sister Rosalie Templeton of Boulder, CO; his grandchildren, Audrey Hawkins (Matt), Keegan Specht (Erin), Braden Slonecker (Lindsey), Riley Slonecker (Gabriel), Blake, Makayla Hawkins and Rory Specht; and his sisters-in-law, Ramona Vanschoonhoven of Plum City, WI and Karen Olek (Jim) of St. Paul, MN. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob's family respectfully requests no plants or flowers and those memorials be made in his name to Lion's Rocky Mountain Eye Bank or to Christ United Methodist Church.

“The Slonecker family was an early family in the establishment of my home town, Scio Ohio. John A_ Slonecker lived from 1858 to 1925, and was both a jeweler and optometrist. He must have been well-established, as his building is still standing on Main Street still bears his name! He is buried in the Scio Grandview Cemetery.
