He was predeceased by: his parents, Suzie Prudue and Ben Abeyta; and his sisters, Kathy Danner, Viola Dick and Lorraine Hernandez.

He is survived by: his sisters, Annamay Herburger, Mary Aquero, Liz Martinez and Delores Romero; and his children, Tina Abeyta (Raymond Hernandez), Emily Abeyta, Stephanie Abeyta and Steven Abeyta Jr.. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews extended family and friends.
