He is survived by: his sister Joan; his wife Geri; his children, David Shirk (Stacey) and Elizabeth Franke (John); and his grandchildren, Terryn Fredrickson, Aubryanna Fredrickson and Evan Shirk. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals.
