Joyce Lynne Hagelberg Woody Obituary

Joyce Woody, 75, passed away unexpectedly from COVID-19 complications on March 25. Joyce Hagelberg was born in St. Charles, Illinois to Garold and Erma (Puffett) Hagelberg. She grew up in Dundee, Iowa, the youngest of 4 children. She graduated from West Delaware Community School in 1962. After High School, she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the CIA. She married Darrell Ray Woody on January 14, 1967. Darrell worked as an Auditor for oil companies which took them to Oklahoma and Illinois. In 1980, they relocated to Colorado, a place she had always wanted to live. In 1985 she started a home daycare. It was at that time that the kids started calling her Nana Joyce because she loved each one of them like they were her own grandchild. When her children were older, she went to work for the government. She was a temporary employee from 1994 – 1996. In 1997, she and Darrell were divorced. In June of 1998 she became a permanent government employee, working for the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. In January 2001, she moved to the 460th Contracting Squadron as the Commander’s Secretary. In January 2003, she moved up to the position of Procurement Clerk. While at Buckley Air Force Base, Joyce volunteered as the Unit Tax Advisor (2 years), and won the Squadron Group, Wing, Team Buckley and 14th Air Force Civilian Category 1 for the 2nd Quarter 2003. In 2005, Joyce retired from the government and started working for Theodore Watson and Associates as the Office Manager. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, traveling (especially to the mountains), going to concerts, watching movies, catching a Rockies game and spoiling her children and grandchildren. She loved attending school functions and sporting events for all of her grandchildren. She was looking forward to being a great grandma in June.

She is survived by her children Todd Woody (Wendy Jo), Michelle Sinclair and Adam Woody (Kim); grandchildren Kayla Jo Rodriguez (Derek), Dylan Woody, Victoria (Tori) Sinclair, Emma Woody, Makena Woody and Tyler Sinclair; step-grandchildren Samantha (Samie) Hemmings (Thomas) and Austin Singletary (Bridget); siblings Lyle Hagelberg (Liliane), Ken Hagelberg (Bev) and Sharron Hockaday (Dick). She was preceded in death by her parents, sister-law Beverly and brother-in-law Richard (Dick).

Due to the current restrictions with the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will be holding a private funeral. When gatherings are allowed, a celebration of life will be planned.
