Anola Elizabeth Radtke of Longmont, Colorado, celebrated 97 years of life, a life filled with her love of music, art, education, travel, family, and friends. She was born in Ripon, Wisconsin, on February 26, 1922, to Leo and Selma Radtke. She passed away at Longmont United Hospital on April 12, 2019.
Anola attended elementary and high school in Ripon, developing an early interest in music. She earned scholarships to study music education at Milwaukee State Teachers College. Following graduation, she taught music in Marshfield, WIsconsin, for four years. Anola returned to college, graduating with distinction and earning a Masters in Music Education at the University of Indiana. She continued her career teaching music to prospective teachers at various universities, including the University of Wyoming, University of Tennessee, and Illinois State University. Anola also spent several years as a textbook consultant at Ginn and Co., before returning to Eastern Illinois University to complete her education career.
After retirement, Anola embarked on a new challenge, moving to Poland for two years to serve as a Professor at the Teacher Training College associated with the University of Warsaw. While in Poland, she became close friends with several musicians and artists who remained a special part of her life, Gregor, Tolo, and Michal.
In 1989, she moved to Longmont, Colorado, for her permanent home. Anola was a long-time member of InterFaith Quilters in Longmont creating quilts, memories, and friendships that she cherished.
Anola was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Kurt, several cousins and close friends. She is survived by her nephews Kurt (Toni) and Jon, niece Sue (Bill), great nephews Kurt (Kathryn) , Shawn (Maureen), Scott (Kristi), great niece Erin and her great-great nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to friends Donna and Steve, Kandace, Abby, Cyndi and Mike, Cindy and Mick, Brook and Bob, Dixie, Linda, Maxine, Elizabeth and her Tatra Family, Atria, and many others who have provided friendship and caring during her life in Longmont.
