He is survived by: his wife Pauline Cordova Velez of La Junta; his sons, Ernest Velez (Jeannine Barton) of La Junta, Tom Velez (Stephanie) of Strasburg, Ray Velez (Dana) of La Junta, Jesse Velez (Natalie) of Pueblo, David Rivera (Cheryl) of Colorado Springs and Johnny Rivera of Trinidad; and his brothers, Raphael and Jose.
