He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Schmelzer and Clara Schmelzer (Seel); his siblings, Steve Schmelzer and Jeanette Pechak; his niece Shannon; and his sister-in-law Adeline Cihla.
He is survived by: his wife Gladys Schmelzer; his children, Cherie Chigma, Tracy Gundersen (Scott) and Jason Schmelzer (Kayla); his grandchildren, Nora, Sebatian Chigma, Bryden and Sharon Gundersen; and his brothers, Walter Schmelzer (Jaylene) and Jerry Schmelzer (Larue).
