He was predeceased by: his parents, Vernon Sidney and Leona May Smith (Daniels); his former wife Twila Smith; his siblings, Sidney Smith, Wendell Smith (Ramona), Stanton Smith (Dorothy), Gerald Smith (Carolyn), Catherine Smith, Lois Lakey (Bob) and Elizabeth Myer (Gerald); and his half-sister Audrey Aasgaard.
He is survived by: his former wife Twila Faye Bates; his wife Sharon Banjoff; his daughters, Melody Michelle (Blake) of Thornton, CO, Shelly Thompson (Pat) of Goodland, KS, Karla Hassler (Alan) of Kremmling, CO and Terri Smith of Sharon Springs, KS; and his sisters, Nancy Bradford (Walt) of Wray, CO and Patricia Warren (Leonard) of Holyoke, CO. He is also survived by five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
