He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwyn Riley and Nellie Mae Carter. He is survived by: his wife Melba; his sister Carolyn Forrest; and his daughters, Christine Averill (Allen), Evelyn Carter, Roberta Shortridge, Cecily Woodbury and Lisa Lewis (David). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
