He was predeceased by: his wife Karen Lee; and his parents, John and Hilda. He is survived by: his children, Donna Schmidt of Sparta, MI and John Schmidt (Jennifer) of Jupiter, FL.; his grandsons, John David Schmidt and Steven Carl Schmidt; and his cousin Joyce Sueta. He is also survived by many "nieces and nephews".
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be given to the American Heart Association or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
