Ruth Beverly Lenz Obituary

Ruth Beverly Lenz, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 101 on July 10, 2024. Ruth was born on February 7, 1923, in Chicago, IL, to William Robert and Mary Jane Paine. Ruth grew up as an only child but was surrounded by a large extended family of cousins and many friends.

She married her neighborhood sweetheart, William H. Lenz, while he was home on furlough during World War II. Together they embarked on a journey which took them through various cities including Chicago, IL, Ardmore, OK, Grand Island, NE, Shreveport, LA and Memphis, TN.

Her husband died in 1967 but Ruth continued to live in Memphis until she received a phone call in 1986 from her daughter Nancy who had a two year old and was expecting twins. Ruth decided to move from Memphis to Eagle, CO to help. In addition to caring for her grandsons, Ruth was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church of Eagle Valley where she was in the choir, helped lead Sunday School, and served in many other ways. She was a member of the American Legion for over 72 years, participated in Mountain Harmony, and enjoyed activities such as her Pinochle Club, Aquabelles, and playing Scrabble with her friends and family.

Known for her warmth, positivity, and unwavering kindness, Ruth's life was marked by numerous achievements and a vibrant spirit that endeared her to everyone she met. An unforgettable moment in her life was her surprise 90th birthday party where over 90 friends and family members gathered to celebrate with her. Ruth's legacy of love, compassion, and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and community.

Above all else, Ruth cherished her family. She is survived by her children, Nancy (Jon) Gamble of Eagle, CO, and David (Dusty) Lenz of Thornton, CO; grandchildren, Christopher (Rebecca) Gamble, Alexander Gamble, Bradley Gamble, and Charis Lenz (Hayden Gregory), and great- grandchildren Shane and Illiana Gregory.

Ruth's burial will take place at a later date at Memorial Park in Memphis, TN, where she will rejoin her beloved husband, Bill.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Eagle Valley and may be earmarked for the "Simple Supper" in memory of Ruth.
