He was predeceased by: his parents, Merle D. Shute and Alice Wilder Shute; and his siblings, Pauline George, Cynthia Slack, Lawrence and Roland Shute.

He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth L Shute (Becky); his daughters, Bonnie J Shute-Brigilia, Brenda J. Allen (David) and Karrie E. Thomison; his grandchildren, Sharon M. Gann (Bradford), Ramin Shute-Mahini, Anastasia M. Lancaster and Kylie Thomison; his stepgranddaughter Sara Allen; his grandchildren, Brendan Gann, Stefanie Gann Lee (Nathan), Derek Gann and Siobhan Gann; and his brother Merle (Skip) Strout (Muriel). He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.
