He was predeceased by: his wife Rita Frances Lauderbaugh; his mother Ruth Brennan; his grandmother Jennie Lewis; his brother Wayne Coates; his stepfather Mike Brennan; and his cousin Joyce.
He is survived by: his son Todd Coates of Fort Morgan; his grandchildren, Melissa Lilly (Fred) of Tucson, Ian and Brandon Coates of Auburn, CA.; his children, Lili, Sabex, Thierry, Peter, Cleveland, Joyce, Espoir, Esau and Jacob of Denver; his parents-in-law, Peggy Beattie, Alyce, Ed Jolovich, Sherry, Hubert Leary, John, Kay Lauderbaugh and Carol Coates; and also Matthew Coates (Leigh) of Auburn, CA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
