Hal Dean wrote a sympathy message

“Dean was my first sergeant when I started at FCPD. I will never forget the chance he took with me, a green inexperienced and naive 22 year old kid, and helped me figure out my purpose. He was my boss again when I became a detective. He showed me, not told me, how to do my job with determination and compassion. I will forever remember his leadership, his friendship, his encouragement and his kindness.”

Donn Hopkins wrote a sympathy message

“Linda and I saw Dean this Fall at the T Bar Inn in Wellington with a group of men having lunch near us, so we spoke briefly and shook hands. Both of us were in wheelchairs so any health discussion wasn't necessary. Dean was my supervisor for some time at FCPD, and my SWAT Team commander. He was a fine leader, dedicated police professional and good guy. He exhibited great character that others tried to absorb and emulate to be good police officers. He will be missed!”

Walter Vanatta wrote a sympathy message

“Cathy and I send our sympathies to Pam and the family. Dean was my Sgt for part of the 8 years I was at FCPD. After that we would meet every year for the next 20+ years to hunt elk. He was always a cowboy at heart and taught me a lot about handling horses. (Mostly let him do it.) It's hard to find those kinds of friends. He will be greatly missed but always kept in our memories.”

Ken Kirchhoff wrote a sympathy message

“Pam, Toby, Marti and family, please accept our sincere condolences and know that Dean touched many lives over the years. Having worked with and for Dean in many assignments at FCPD and being welcomed to the police family in 1978, we shared many memories of work and family. He was a friend and a leader and an accomplished carpenter! God Bless.”

“Condolences to Pam and the family. I worked with Dean at the PD, as he was my LT and SWAT commander. Great guy, Friend and officer. He even made an oak high chair for me and my wife for our 1st baby....that was 44 years ago and the grandkids are still using it. Dean will be missed by many! Your family is in our thoughts...”
