Bertels and Elizabeth Bertels (King); his former wife Dena Larison; his children, Jeremy (Cessnee Bertels) of Rodgers, AR, Shane Bertels and Kristy Bertels of Kansas City, MO; his siblings, Kenneth L. Bertels, Ronald E. Bertels (Brenda), Darin W. Bertels, Cynthia Kesse (Ronald) of Cummings, KS, Sherry Wagner (Greg), Lynette M Chmidling (Raymond), Denise R. Jones, Lisa Swygert (Matt) and Dawn Worley (John); his grandchildren, Maya and Matthew Bertels (Gail Strausheim) of Rodgers, AR.; and his brothers, Bryan J and Gary W Bertels.
