He was predeceased by: his parents, Chauncey Carter and Ida Mae Carter (McIntire); his son Tommy; and his sisters, Ida Mae Cozad and Mildred Anthony.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his children, Teresa Summers of Fort Collins, Terry Carter (Kathy) of Pagosa Springs, CO and Ted Carter (Sandy) of Windsor, CO; and his grandchildren, Greg Summers, Brad Carter, Chris Carter, Jaime Price, Brandon Carter and TJay Carter. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
