He was predeceased by: his parents, Edith Stokes and James Stokes; and his wife Helen Carroll. He is survived by: his children, Mark Stokes and Michelle Strickland; his children-in-law, Nancy Stokes and David Strickland; his grandchildren, Neill (Susanne), Alissa Stokes, Cory Strickland and Nicole Cibula (Mark); and his great grandchild Cara.

Family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association in George's name.
