Mary J (Lynn) Cavarra Obituary

On November 11, 2023 Mary J. Cavarra, age 86, passed away peacefully after a brief illness from reoccurring breast cancer. Her family was with her and all joined in the celebration of her life. She is survived by her four children, Leslie Buttorff of Belleair Shore, FL, Joe Cavarra of Franklin, TN, Jennifer French of Boulder, CO and Nick Cavarra of Littleton, CO and two brothers Perry and Tim Lynn.

Mary had nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Mary was born in Chicago, IL on September 2, 1937. She grew up in Chicago, San Antonio and Lakewood, CO.

She attended Lakewood High School and received her bachelors and MBA from the University of Colorado. Mary was a kind and thoughtful matriarch of the family. She had a successful career working for United Bank, ARCO, Anaconda, IHS and for the last 23 years supported her daughter by being the Controller of Quintel-MC, Inc. She started her career on the Wheat Ridge City Council and served on the Council for 9 years from 1973 to 1982.

She was the first woman to serve on the City Council. She was also the Treasurer for the City from 2003 to 2008. One of her proudest accomplishments was to fight off building developers and to create the Crown Lake recreational land for all citizens of Wheat Ridge and Lakewood to enjoy.

Mary was also instrumental in the development of the Anderson building and pool. She loved to ski and was a long term member of the Copper Mountain Over the Hill Gang. She was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was very involved with all of her family.

We will miss her. A small private family service is planned for next Mother’s Day at Crown Lake.
