She was predeceased by: her parents, William F. Schaal and Leona Schaal (Sharp); her siblings, Donald and Betty Reimer; and her grandson Nicholas Matthies.
She is survived by: her husband Leonard Matthies; her children, Frederick (Sue), Everett (Kevin), Carolyn Martell, Gene (Ann), Dean (Pam), Betty Ganser (John) and Allen; and her brother Virgil Schaal. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
